About Us

Bobby Markowitz, Founder and President

Bobby Markowitz is a California Licensed Landscape Architect. He is a graduate of Rutgers University, Bachelors of Arts. In 1980, Bobby went to study landscape architecture and design in Japan. Upon returning to the United States he established Earthcraft Landscape Design as a landscape contractor and later, in 1990, as a landscape architect. He has designed and built award-winning gardens and landscapes, both residential and commercial, over his 30-year career with a naturalistic and sustainable flair.

In 2002, Bobby saw the merits of rainwater harvesting and began to design and install systems in Northern California. To date, there are numerous systems in operation offering their owners independence, security for fire protection, and flexibility to irrigate gardens during a drought or mandated water moratorium.

Bobby has studied rainwater harvesting in Australia, Singapore, Hawaii and New Mexico. In addition to his design work, he is involved in educational lecturing and in helping change current rainwater legislation for the State of California. Bobby believes that there are many ecological reasons for combining landscape architecture with rainwater harvesting.

Additionally, Bobby has been a featured speaker at the ASCE International Low Impact Development Conference for Civil Engineers, presenting on “Best Practices for Maximum Beneficial Use of Rainwater – Studies from California LEED Projects”, as well as Delegate guest in Singapore at the IPWE 2011 conference: An International Perspective on Water Resources and the Environment.
